THERE IS and THERE ARE

THERE IS

We use THERE IS, when talk about SINGULAR THING. (COUNTABLES and UNCOUNTABLES)

AFFIRMATIVE SENTENCES:

  • Estructure:

           There is + A/AN + thing + complemet

  • Examples:
    • There is a computer in the office.
    • There is an apple on the table.
    • There is a student in the clasroom.

NEGATIVE SENTENCES:


  • Estructure:

           There isn´t + A/AN + thing + complemet

  • Examples:
    • There isn't a notebook in the bookstore.
    • There isn't an aeroplane in the airport.
    • There isn't a mirror in the bathroom.

INTERROGATIVE SENTENCES:


  • Estructure:

           Is there + a/an + thing + complement + ?

  • Examples:
    • Is there a  courtain in the kitchen?.
      • Yes, there is / No, there isn't.
    • Is there an apple in the fridge?
      • Yes, there is. / No, there is´t.
    • Is there a laptop in the house?
      • Yes, there is. / No, there isn't.

IMPORTANT



THERE ARE

We use THERE ARE, when talk about PLURAL THINGS.
We never use A/AN after THERE ARE.

AFFIRMATIVE SENTENCES:

  • Estructure:

           There are  + (SOME ) +  things + complemet

  • Examples:
  • There  are six books in the bookstore. 
  • There are twenty apples on the table.
  • There are some students in the English Class.

NEGATIVE SENTENCES:

  • Estructure:

           There aren't  +  ANY + things + complemet.

  • Examples:
  • There aren't  any notebooks in the bookstore.
  • There aren't five computers games in my office.
  • There aren't any mirrors in the hall.

INTERROGATIVE SENTENCES:

  • Estructure:

           Are there +  any  + things + complement + ?

  • Examples:
  • Are there any courtains in the kitchen?.
    • Yes, there are / No, there aren't
  • Are there any apples in the fridge?
    • Yes, there are. / No, there aren't.
  • Are there any markers in his bag?
    • Yes, there are. / No, there aren't.
